This time of year is filled with gift-giving, meal preparations, Mariah Carey’s Christmas album, and, of course, the chatter of impending diets. If I hear one more person talk about how they are swearing off carbs or doing a food detox in the new year, I may scream. What we tend to focus on Perhaps it’s the way the new year so perfectly dovetails with the bevy of holiday parties and meals that prompts us to set goals around eating and weight loss, but it’s definitely a hot topic of conversation this time of year. Just last year, weight loss was the second biggest New Year’s resolution (behind saving money). It beat out having more sex, traveling more, reading more books, learning a new skill or hobby, buying a house, quitting smoking, and finding love.
